Birkdale Wild Hogs Ride Again!

I am delighted to confirm that after too long off the the road my ural 750 cc trike finally hit the road again yesterday. An enjoyable ride out along the coastal road in Southport to Martinmere Bird sanctuary and back to Southport town centre. This ride was in anticipation of making it to the MCE BSB competition on Sunday – viewing not participating may I add!

John Pugh MP to host SUAG Open Day

I am delighted to confirm that the local Southport MP, John Pugh, has kindly agreed to host an Open day at the Spinal Unit Action Group ( SUAG) run home for those with Spinal Cord Injury at 6 Weld Road, Southport on 25th September.

John has a special interest in paralysis as he sits on the Parliamentary Spinal Injuries Group. We are hoping that his presence will attract more regional funders to the open day to illustrate what a fine establishment 6 Weld Road is.

Urine Tract Infection

As all those with spinal cord injury, I have an AchillesHeel: for some it is tissue viability, others bowel complaints and there are those who struggle to cope with spasms. For me the constant battle is to avoid picking up yet another urine infection – glamorous I know! The North West Spinal Injuries Centre has looked after me extremely well however we are all still baffled by the root cause of my ongoing difficulties – the team will continue to battle on to find an answer!

Doris leaving Do

Yesterday, 26th June, was Doris Shoering’s last day working on the North West Spinal Injuries Centre in Southport.

Doris worked at the centre for many years providing an invaluable service to thousands of those with spinal cord injury in the region.

There was a great turn out for Doris’ leaving presentation, both present staff and those who have retired.  Dr. Clive Glass, the clinical director of the centre, gave Doris a number of presents on behalf of those attending including a 2 day classic car experience in a Morgan!

Doris’ contribution will be greatly missed in the spinal cord injured community in the North West

Wheelchair skills with baby

With Arthur 19 days old in this photo it can be seen that he still fits neatly in my lap whilst I am in my wheelchair. This is excellent as when he is a little bit grumpy I simply roll around with him lying on my thighs and he falls to sleep thinking he is in his pram or the car!

Mick and Mary as preparations were being made for Mick’s housewarming party. As a client Mick was a pleasure to represent and I am delighted to see him in a wonderful home with his sister Mary looking forward to life with a real relish.

Mick’s housewarming

Last night I was delighted to be invited to the house warming party of one of my past clients, Mick. He has now been discharged from the regional Spinal Injuries Centre as the specialist adaptations to the property, purchased with a portion of his compensation monies,  have been completed. Mick is a Cl tetraplegic wheelchair user following a motorbike accident 2 years ago; he instructed me to represent him in his claim for compensation and together with our team of experts found the above property, close to his family and friends that could be adapted with our specialist input.

It was wonderful to see Mick in his home environment surrounded by his friends and family and I drove home feeling he will be very happy in his new home.
