Ten Years for Triple Death Driver

In June of this year I represented my client Stacey Williams in an internationally reported case in which a 24-year-old motorist, Richard Brown, killed three teenagers – one of whom was pregnant – and paralysed Stacey when he crashed at speed. Brown was subsequently jailed for 10 years in this high media profile case more of which is reported at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/wales_politics/8124461.stm

Doris leaving Do

Yesterday, 26th June, was Doris Shoering’s last day working on the North West Spinal Injuries Centre in Southport.

Doris worked at the centre for many years providing an invaluable service to thousands of those with spinal cord injury in the region.

There was a great turn out for Doris’ leaving presentation, both present staff and those who have retired.  Dr. Clive Glass, the clinical director of the centre, gave Doris a number of presents on behalf of those attending including a 2 day classic car experience in a Morgan!

Doris’ contribution will be greatly missed in the spinal cord injured community in the North West

Yesterday I was thrilled to be invited down to watch the West Coast Crash Wheelchair Rugby team train with the GB Development Squad at the North West Spinal Injuries Centre, Southport.  Wheelchair users of different levels of spinal cord injury and paralysis gathered for a two day training camp. The West Coast Crash formed at the tail end of 2008 hope to be competing in the National league at the start of the next season; Good luck lads. You can find out more about the team at   http://westcoastcrash.blogspot.com/2009/02/wheelchair-rugby-rules.html

Wheelchair skills with baby

With Arthur 19 days old in this photo it can be seen that he still fits neatly in my lap whilst I am in my wheelchair. This is excellent as when he is a little bit grumpy I simply roll around with him lying on my thighs and he falls to sleep thinking he is in his pram or the car!

Mick and Mary

Mick and Mary as preparations were being made for Mick’s housewarming party. As a client Mick was a pleasure to represent and I am delighted to see him in a wonderful home with his sister Mary looking forward to life with a real relish.

Mick’s housewarming

Last night I was delighted to be invited to the house warming party of one of my past clients, Mick. He has now been discharged from the regional Spinal Injuries Centre as the specialist adaptations to the property, purchased with a portion of his compensation monies,  have been completed. Mick is a Cl tetraplegic wheelchair user following a motorbike accident 2 years ago; he instructed me to represent him in his claim for compensation and together with our team of experts found the above property, close to his family and friends that could be adapted with our specialist input.

It was wonderful to see Mick in his home environment surrounded by his friends and family and I drove home feeling he will be very happy in his new home.

Brainwashing

It is never too early to start children thinking about representing England at rugby I have been told…….especially when you have a Welsh grandmother keen to have him playing for ‘the Land of my Fathers’ when he grows up!

Arthur, of course!

I know I am biased but this is one cute little fellow, is he not?!

So far so good with Arthur. He sleeps  and feeds well. The fact that I am a paraplegic really has not presented any problems so far. Indeed the only area in which I have been unable to give Lucy a hand is on the breastfeeding front due to natural biological restrictions! This works out well, of course, as I am able to sleep most of the night and wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed for work  in the law firm the next morning.

In fact, being a wheelchair user has been a positive advantage when trying to calm him down when he is agitated – I merely roll around with him on my lap and Arthur thinks he is in his pram and nods off!

Ellie, our Bernese Mountain dog, has been wonderful with little Arthur.

Billy, the Burmese cat, on the other hand has not been quite so accepting…..!
